Trip Planning: In The Works*

*Although we do not have a video tutorial for trips a fellow WikiCamps "Camper" has written a detailed well thought out tutorial that can be found here: http://simsalsepicadventures.com/wikicamps-guide-trip-planner/

WikiCamps Australia is currently AUD$7.99.

This is a 1 time purchase and will let you use WikiCamps on multiple devices on the platform it was purchased on*
There are no monthly subscription fees or fees for downloading additional content. **

*Devices must be logged in to the same account that the purchase was made on (Google Play & the Gmail account, Windows & Microsoft Store Account and Apple Users must either share an AppleID or have family sharing available).
** Additional carrier and internet service provider charges may apply.
Prices are subject to change. Please check the store for the most up to date price.

WikiCamps is available to download for:
Apple iOS from the Apple Store
Android from the Google Play Store
Windows10 from the Microsoft Store

WikiCamps is NOT available for:
Earlier versions of Windows (7, XP and 8)
Apple OSX or the new M1 chip
ChromeOS

Sorry to say you will have to purchase again as you'll be adding an operating platform.

One purchase per platform allows you to install on all of your devices on that same platform only (e.g. iPhone & iPad / Android Phone & Tablet). This is because each app store, on each platform, is run by a different company (Google, Apple and Microsoft) and it's not possible to transfer or share app purchases between the (retailer) stores.

The WikiCamps app is developed individually for each platform so can't be 'transferred' across operating systems. Platform specific/required integrations such as the mapping (Windows10 & TomTom / Apple & Apple Maps / Android & Google Maps) make it impossible to transfer - there's not much we can do about that unfortunately.

Once downloaded on your device you'll be able to login with your WikiCamps User Account details (if you've set-up a User Account) to access your previously saved trips and favourites.

Does WikiCamps work with Android Auto?
We don't support WikiCamps on Android Auto (as yet) so it may not work.
There have been cases where people contacted us saying it works seamlessly and others informing us it doesn't work, at all. It's trial and error.
Do you already have the mobile Android device version of WikiCamps? If so, the process may be a little smoother.
Please make sure your Android Auto is signed into the same Google account as your original device. Your Google account is in your Android settings, click Accounts, click Google.
Then open WikiCamps and if you're seeing a red banner at the top of your main menu then tap the Upgrade button, tap Check for purchase, allow Contacts permission (required for activation only), then select your Google account.

Does WikiCamps work with Apple CarPlay?
No, sorry, WikiCamps isn't compatible with Apple CarPlay.

If you have purchased WikiCamps on a device that shares the same platform then you can install it without purchasing it again. Below are short guides for each platform:

Apple
Please ensure your new device is signed into the same AppleID account as your old device. Your AppleID is in 'Settings'. Open the App Store on your new device, tap the Apps tab at the bottom, tap the Account icon in the top right, tap Purchased, tap My Purchases then tap the download button/icon next to WikiCamps.

Android
Please make sure your device is signed into the same Google account as your original WikiCamps purchase. Your Google account is in your Android settings, click Accounts, click Google.

Then open WikiCamps and if you're seeing a red banner at the top of your main menu then tap the Upgrade button, tap Check for purchase, allow Contacts permission (required for activation only), then select your Google account.

Microsoft
Please ensure your new PC is signed into the same Microsoft account as your old PC. Then open the Microsoft Store in your start menu, click the 3 dots icon in the top right, click My Library, click the download icon next to WikiCamps. You should then find the WikiCamps app icon in your Start menu under W for WikiCamps.

If you are changing platforms then unfortunately you will have to purchase WikiCamps again.

If you are still having trouble please contact support@wikicamps.co

Please ensure your new device is signed in to the same Google account, in your Android account settings, as your original device when WikiCamps was purchased.
Please note, this is done in your Android account settings and not in WikiCamps.

How to check
Tap to open Google Play on both of your device
Swipe in from the left of the screen.
Here you should see your Google account associated with your app purchases.
This Gmail address needs to match on your all of your Android device for WikiCamps to activate.

How to add a Google account
Open your Android settings then scroll down to find the Accounts heading.
Tap Add account then select Google.
Follow the on-screen instructions.

If you are still having trouble please contact support@wikicamps.co

Firstly please ensure that you have a User Account this can be done by trying to reset the password on for the email you would have set the account up with.

If the message reads "There is no account associated with that email address" then you may have set the account up with a different email or mistyped your email. If this is the case then you may want to create an account via the My Account page from the main menu (select Sign Up) . When creating a new account please ensure you choose a unique username which has not already been taken by another user.

This tutorial may also help: https://youtu.be/uAH-QapMSE0

Alternatively if the text reads "An email has been sent to help you reset your password" then check your emails (including junk/spam) for the reset link if no email has been sent after an hour please contact support to receive a temporary password.

To retrieve your WikiCamps User Account password open My Account from the WikiCamps main menu.
Enter your email address and enter an incorrect password into the sign-in box.
Tap login button. You will then be asked if you've forgotten your password.
Tap yes and follow the instructions in the email.

Note: Password retrievals can, on occasion, be blocked by email servers. Please check your junk/spam and if you still haven’t received an email from us please email support@wikicamps.co and we will manually reset the password associated with your WikiCamps User Account.

First, ensure you've updated to the latest version of WikiCamps, then follow the steps below for your device.

iOS Solutions
Please check and update iOS on your device if available. To do this, tap settings on your device's home screen. Then go to general and select Software Update.
Try rebooting your device by holding the power and home buttons for approximately 10 seconds, until the device reboots.
If all else fails, uninstall and reinstall WikiCamps.
You will not have to purchase again to reinstall WikiCamps.

Android Solutions
Power off your device and back on. Try again.
Check and update Android OS on your device if available. To do this, open your Android settings. Scroll down to the bottom and tap About phone. Tap system update.
If all else fails, uninstall and reinstall WikiCamps.

If all else fails, uninstall and reinstall WikiCamps.
You will not have to purchase again to reinstall WikiCamps.

If you are still having trouble please contact support@wikicamps.co

Ensure your device has the required GPS hardware built in.
Turn location services on in your operating system's settings.
Have a clear line of sight to the sky so your device can connect with the satellites.

If your device does not have GPS (e.g. most laptops/PCs) then ensure you're connected to a WiFi network with a known location. Your device should then use the network's location as your own.

This is often very inaccurate so please pay extra attention when adding new sites.

Check with your manufacturer to ensure your device has the required compass hardware built in. You cannot upgrade your device with software.

Ensure your device is not close to any metal objects which may be interfering with your digital compass.
Also remove your device from any case or covers.

If you are still having trouble please contact support@wikicamps.co

Please check carefully to ensure you've entered your code in correctly.
It must be entered in all uppercase and including the full stops.
No spaces after the full stops.
Letters are in blocks of 5 and should be as example below.
ABCDE.FGHJK.LMNOP

Be aware that some keyboards may autocorrect your letters and replace them with words.
There is always a way to make your keyboard not do this and that method varies depending which keyboard you're using.
Also some keyboards will add a space automatically after the full stops. You need to remove this space.

If you are still having trouble please contact support@wikicamps.co

Ensure you're connected to the internet to view the photos in full resolution.
Full sized photos do not download with the offline user content.

We're planning a comprehensive tutorial, however, in the meantime one of our fantastic WikiCamps 'campers' have put together a really good Trip Planner Guide…

http://simsalsepicadventures.com/wikicamps-guide-trip-planner/

Tap the 'Change Trip' button in the top toolbar on the trip planner page, then select the trip you want to open.

When adding a site from the main map view of WikiCamps, the site will be added to whichever trip is currently open. To add a site to your current trip from this view you have two options:

Option 1.
* Find the site: Either as a pin on the map or a site in the site list
* Tap the 3 dots (found on the map popup box or in the top right corner of the site in the site list)
* Select 'Add to planner'.

Option 2.
Open a site's details page, then tap the 'Car' icon which can be found at the top right below immediately below the favourite button.

Option 1.
You can add a new site to your trip by tapping the 'ADD' button between any sites in your trip list.
The new site will be added in the place you tapped.

Option 2.
If you want to add a existing WikiCamps site to your trip then see the question above.

First you must make your trip public. To do this tap the 3 dots at the bottom right of the trip header photo in your trip list.
Tap edit. Turn on 'Make Public' then tap 'Open Link'.
You can then copy and paste the web link into an email or onto a social media post, etc.

The first thing you need to do to print a trip plan is to make it public, this can be done by navigating to the trip, opening the site list, and tapping the three vertical dots overlaying the header photo and selecting edit the trip details.
Tap the slider next to 'Make Public' and select Open Link (sometimes it takes a bit of time for the link to work so please be patient. It may also be worth clearing the website cache by pressing Control + Shift + Delete) once opened click the menu button in the top left and select 'Show print friendly version' this will refresh the page nicely for you to print (control + p).

Firstly you need to make the trip public (you can private it once you've duplicated it if you wish), once the trip is public you can then navigate to the trip link which is a webpage anyone can view your trip at.
While on this webpage, tap the menu button in the top left (3 horizontal lines) and select "save trip to your account". Once you have signed in using the email and password for your WikiCamps account it will let you know it has been copied.

When two devices are not syncing the first thing to check is the account they are signed in on - please tap the orange home button and read the username under the user icon, if these are different then you are not signed into the same account. If one, or both, appear as 'User XXXXXXX' (where the X's are different numbers) then you are not signed into an account.

On the header image of your trip there's a 'sync' button. Please tap this.

If both devices are signed into the same account and still aren't syncing then please check that both devices are connected to the internet. To prevent WikiCamps from using lots of mobile data there are some updates which only automatically happen when connected to the internet and this includes the syncing of trips (the WikiCamps app needs to be open and connected to Wi-Fi in order to sync trips). If you have done all this (and it's been more then a couple hours) then try restarting your phone and opening WikiCamps again.

Please note, checklists are currently unable to be synced.

Please place a ping (custom waypoint) on the road you wish to travel on and add a new site where the pin is, you can then change the image connected to the site to an orange way-point and Routing as 'Follow Roads'. Place this in between the two sites you need to use the road for and it should re-route along the road.
Custom Way-point: https://youtu.be/FJ31l6wO0GU

Tap the 3 dots in the bottom right of the header photo in your trip list, then select 'Edit'. Tap the photo box to select/upload a new photo.

Tap the 3 dots in the bottom right of the header photo in your trip list, then select 'Edit'. Change your trip name then tap 'Save'.

To update your progress you can move the green trip progress bar up and down your trip list.
Do this by long taping the progress bar then moving it up and down.
The places (road route) you've visited will be shown in red, with places not yet visited shown in green.

Tap 'Change Trip' in the top left corner of the trip planner page. Then tap the 'Trash Can' icon in the bottom right corner of the trip cell. This will move your trip into your archived list. Tap the Archive tab at the top to view your archived list. If you tap the trash can icon again on an archived trip then this will permanently remove the trip and it cannot be restored.

Tap and hold on any entry in your trip to pick it up, then drag it up or down to move it's position in your trip. Let go to drop it into position.

Tap 'Change Trip' in the top left corner of the trip planner page. Then tap the Archive tab at the top, tap the trip you want to restore.

Tap the 3 dots in the top right of any cell in your trip and select 'Edit'. Update the details and select 'Save'.

When adding a site from the WikiCamps site map you need to choose where to insert the site into your trip. If you select 'Smart Insert' then WikiCamps will evaluate your entire trip and try to pick the best place to add this site with the smallest detour from your current trip.

Tap the map layers button at the top right of the map (Below the orange menu button). Select 'Hide Trip Route' or 'Show Trip Route'.

If you see a straight line between 2 sites then this distance shown is as the crow flies. Proper road routes will become visible if you're connected to the internet. If the green line follows the road on the map then the distance shown is via roads.

You sure can, simply add sites to your trip as you visit them rather than before.

In order to add a site to WikiCamps you have to have the app installed as all sites and descriptions are are generated by the amazing WikiCamps community.

Once you have the WikiCamps App select the Orange house icon in the top right corner.

Under the Tools label there is an option named "Add A New Site" select this then brings up a form to fill out.

On the site listing, scroll to the bottom of the scree then select 'Edit Site'

To add a site by street address, open the home menu, select Add New Site, tap the Set Location button and choose Look up address.

These circles represent pin clusters.
When there are too many pins in one area, WikiCamps will group them into a cluster.
The number inside the black circle represents how many pins are in the cluster.
These clusters will break apart, into smaller clusters and eventually individual pins, the further you zoom in.

Use the search bar at the top of the screen. Enter the name of the city or town you want to find then tap the result. A sorting pin will then be dropped on the map and the list will automatically be sorted nearest to the pin.

Use the search bar at the top of the screen.

We review and moderate comments when they are brought to our attention (and/or are flagged automatically by the WikiCamps platform).

Reviews are subjective by their very nature and, we strongly believe, negative reviews are equally as valuable as positive reviews and we won't remove a review unless...

  • they contain personal insults or name calling
  • it doesn't offer a 'review' of their first-hand and recent experience (camping, campground, facilities, features)
  • the review contains profanity or vulgarity
  • the content is sexually explicit
  • it contains prejudiced language (e.g. sexism, racism)
  • threats are made
  • there are serious allegations with potential legal implications
  • a review descends into into a forum-style of comments and replies
  • the review has clearly been posted on the wrong site listing

Our goal is to continue delivering a safe and trustworthy source for camping advice and information - both positive and negative. However, we absolutely reserve the right to block both reviews, and also users, when posts no longer promote a healthy community environment.

If you have seen a review that doesn't conform with these guidelines please do let us know - support@wikicamps.co

Tap on the site you want to review. Tap on reviews. Tap on 'Write a Review'

Tap on the site you want to review. Tap on reviews. Tap on 'Rate this Site'

Please refer to 'Information & Guidelines'
