Description

Housed in Kennecott's historic Blackburn School, the Kennecott Visitor Center is the information hub for the Kennecott Mines National Historic Landmark in the heart of Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve. Here, visitors can pick up maps, brochures and trail descriptions, join a ranger for a history talk or nature walk, or plan their wilderness excursion. The visitor center also hosts a small branch of the Alaska Geographic's bookstore.

Kenecott is closed for the season, will reopen in spring 2018, probably May, as the Kenecott Lodge opens 26.May 2018. But you can still go there and walk around, just can't get to some buildings. But it's definitely worth the walk.

Shuttle bus is not running due to the end of the season. It's 5 miles one way from the first foot bridge to Kenecott mining village. It's relatively easy walk no up hills etc (Shuttle bus costs 5$/ person one way)
