Description

Hospital Flat Campground was named after serving as a site for a field hospital for ailing soldiers from Fort Grant in the 1880s. It is a cool mountain meadow, with blooming wildflowers and traversed by a small creek - making it a notable summer retreat for officers and their families trying to escape the heat of their desert outpost. The campground has no drinking water available, but there are restrooms onsite. Only tent camping is allowed due to the nature of the campground. Today, Hospital Flat still serves as a popular refuge for forest recreationists, who come to its pleasant surroundings for much the same reason as did those soldiers. *Due to COVID restrictions, Hospital Flat Campground is closed indefinitely until further notice.
