Description
Unlike other campgrounds, Molino Basin Campground is open during the late fall, winter, and early spring, because it is located lower on the slopes of the Santa Catalina Mountains. Views are dominated by nearby rugged, rocky hills, yet the roads in the campground are paved.
The campground has a few dozen individual campsites on a first-come, first-served basis, as well as a group camping and picnic area for reservation. The group area is accessible with its paved walkway, and provides a large picnic shelter with several picnic tables, two serving tables, BBQ grills and bear boxes. Aside from RVs and trailer areas, Molino Basin also has six cleared tent pads, and one accessible tent site adjacent to the picnic area.
For those who wish to venture away from the campground during the day, some popular activities in the area are horseback riding, mountain biking, and hiking - especially on the Arizona Trail. The trail extends from Mexico to Utah and passes through the campground. Nearby is the Molino Trail, which leads campers to the Pusch Ridge Wilderness suitable for hiking and horseback riding only.
