Description

Shannon Campground is sat along the upper reaches of Marijilda Creek, a pleasant little brook surrounded by tall trees and green grass. It has 11 campsites, shaded under mature Engelmann spruce and Douglas-fir. The campground also features two Adirondack-style shelters built during the 1930's by the CCC. Although there is no drinking water onsite, a vault toilet is available and a camp host is present during open season. Campers can try out the nearby Arcadia Trail, a National Recreation Trail that leads down the mountain to Arcadia Campground. Today, visitors can also take a peek at the Forest Service lookout tower on the mountaintop for the most panoramic views of southeastern Arizona.
