Description

Nestled in a forest grove with large granite boulders, Soldier Creek Campground has great views of the lower slopes of the Pinaleños, of the Aravaipa Valley and the Galiuro and Winchester mountains, from the abrupt drop-off in the area. Soldier Creek is one of the coolest areas on the mountain, and is quite popular with the black bear population. It houses the Grant Goudy Ridge Trail #310, which sets out from the south end of Soldier Creek, and leads down the mountain's slopes to the vicinity of Fort Grant, a historic outpost which is now an Arizona State Prison Facility. The campground has 12 campsites, all with picnic tables and fire rings. A vault toilet is also available onsite, except for drinking water.
