Description

Tourist are invited to visit one of the world's most unique facilities that is dedicated to the research and understanding of global scientific issues, the Biosphere 2. This facility serves as a laboratory for controlled scientific studies, as well as an arena for scientific discovery and discussion. Located in the grounds of the University of Arizona, the Biosphere 2 seeks to empower student-scientists and direct their learning through transformative interactive learning in pursuit of answers to great questions with their K-12 programs. It is also a site for many undergraduate research programs, such as the NSF-funded Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program, which provides 10 undergraduates an opportunity to conduct guided research in environmental and earth systems science; and the Environmental Science Institute (ESI), which is a companion program to the REU program, and is not limited to citizens of the USA. The facility offers the Biosphere 2 Experience, a self-guided app based tour and the app should be downloaded prior to arrival as it contains pre-visit material and all onsite tour content. The tour takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes to complete and is about 1 mile in length.
