Description
The Coconino National Forest is one of the most diverse national forests in the United States, with landscapes ranging from the famous red rocks of Sedona and Ponderosa pine forests, to southwestern desert and alpine tundra.
The forest is divided into three ranger districts: Flagstaff District, where the highest mountain in Arizona, the Volcanic Highlands, is located; Mogollon Rim where a historic system of hiking and horseback trails can be found; and Red Rock, where a colorful collection of buttes, pinnacles, mesas and canyons surrounding Sedona is popular.
