*Kitt Peak National Observatory is closed until further notice. Kitt Peak National Observatory (KPNO) is a United States astronomical observatory with more than 20 optical and two radio telescopes, and is one of the largest gatherings of astronomical instruments in the northern hemisphere. Founded in 1958, the observatory was home to what was the largest solar telescope in the world, as well as to many large astronomical telescopes of the late 20th century in the United States.
