Description
Red Rock Scenic Byway was formed several million years ago when the uplifting of the Colorado Plateau which also created the Grand Canyon also caused water to carve out Sedona's red rock, cake-like layers.
The byway offers three golf courses: Oak Creek Country Club, a par 72, 18-hole championship course and home to the Sedona Open; Sedona Golf Resort, a par 71, 18-hole unforgettable course with its emerald green fairways; and Canyon Mesa Golf Course, a par 3, 9-hole executive course featuring stunning scenic vistas of the red rocks.
There are several recreational all-level and handicap-accessible trails in the area, such as the 3-mile roundtrip Little Horse Trail, the 3.6-mile Bell Rock Pathway with modestly steep hills, and the Slim Shady Tal perfect for intermediate level hiking and biking.
Tourists can also visit the largest known and well-preserved petroglyph site in the Verde Valley, the V-Bar-V Heritage Site, and the Chapel of the Holy Cross with one of its most distinctive features being a 90-foot cross, which can be seen from the Byway.
