Description

At an elevation of 6,000 feet, visit Donner Memorial State Park and get scenic vistas of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. In the summer, the alpine park is perfect for camping, picnicking, boating, fishing, and hiking. And, visitors can go cross-country skiing and snowshoeing on trails during the winter. Open year-round, visitors can start the journey at the Visitor Center, where they can explore the history of the area and spend an hour learning more information on the people who came to the Sierra through exhibits. There are postcards, maps, books, and posters available for purchase at the center. Take photos of and with the Pioneer Monument, built to commemorate the California emigrants traveling west during the mid-1800's. After a long walk, visitors can relax at the day use areas with picnic tables, a lakeside interpretive trail, and fishing and beach access. Or, check-in at the park's 154-site campground equipped with clean restrooms, picnic tables, and an interpretive trail.

Really strict on paying for overnight camping even if you dont stay the whole night. The ranger was brutal and not understanding. Very expensive site to use. Showers are paid for even if you pay to camp. $35 is more than we paid for a hotel one night...
