Description

The Earthquake Fault is a wonderful natural phenomenon that cuts through volcanic rock, part of a glassy rhyolite lava flow from Mammoth Mountain, and formed by tectonic stresses in the earth's crust. Lining up with the Inyo-Mono Craters, it is believed to be a part of the east-west stretching that is continuously and gradually widening the entire Basin and Range region. There is a short walking trail that surrounds this natural feature, along with majestic red fir and Jeffrey pine trees which make this a nice spot for a picnic.
