Description

The beautiful and peaceful Sugarloaf Ridge State Park features the headwaters of Sonoma Creek, which runs through gorge and canyon, across the meadow floor, beneath scenic rock outcroppings, and is surrounded at times by redwoods and ferns. Enjoy hiking trails that offers views from the top of Bald Mountain and include the Sierras to the East, San Francisco Bay and Mount Diablo to the South, Mount Tamalpais to the South-West, the Coastal Range, and the Pacific to the West and Mount Saint Helena to the North. Year-round, campers can choose to stay in any of the 47 family camping sites that are surrounded by a large meadow. There is also a group campground that can accommodate up to five people, and two wheelchair-accessible campsites with access to an accessible restroom and showers, and a variety of wheelchair seating areas. The campground also allows dogs, but prohibits them on backcountry trails and roads. For those looking for a luxury camping experience, the park offers Shelter Luxury Tents with room for additional tents and an RV.

Nice shaded sites each with a fire pit and picnic bench. Visitor centre sells firewood $10 for a big bundle. They also have a small store and free WiFi hotspot (connection was pretty slow). Flushing toiles and hot showers ($1 = 2mins). Close to Kenwood wine region. 1hr 30min drive to San Francisco.
