Description

Plumas-Eureka State Park gives visitors a glimpse into an interesting period of California history, as well as opportunities for recreation in a wonderful Sierra mountain setting. Check out the museum building, which was constructed as the miner's bunkhouse, and now serves as a visitor center. See displays that depict the natural and cultural history of the park. Take a look at the historic mining area just outside the museum, where the Mohawk Stamp Mill, Bushman five-stamp mill, stable, mine office, Moriarity House, and the blacksmith shop depict life in gold rush-era California. During the summer, visitors can go on tours of the buildings and blacksmithing demonstrations conducted by docents and park staff. There are also tons of fishing opportunities that include alpine lakes and streams within a short drive or hike out of the campground. Visitors can also hike the nearby access to a network of trails that navigates through the Lakes Basin Recreation Area, including the Pacific Crest Trail.
