The visitors center also sells bump hats, knee pads and batteries. You can also loan torches from here. The gate to cave loop closes at 5pm. You will need a good torch, closed in shoes and warm clothing to enter the caves. Gloves, helmets and knee pads are required for the difficult caves. It's great fun, get in and explore!

So worth the detour, spend a day or two here exploring the lava caves, great escape from the summer heat to spend it underground.

Stop here for a map showing cave location, length and difficultly. You must also visit the visitors centre to pay the park entry fee and to obtain a permit to show you have been screened for white nose syndrome (a disease killing bats) before you enter any of the caves. If you have a national parks annual pass there is no extra fee.
