Description
With a 300-feet ascend each way, this 3-mile trail might take you 2 to 3 hours to do a round trip hike. The trail goes up to a ridge where you can find a lot of barrel cacti scattered in the terrain. As you pass the ridgetop, you will then have a steep descend to the oasis hidden in the rocky canyon. Palm trees shade the pool of water. You can also relax on the large boulders while immersing in the view and the sound of your environment.
To reach the trailhead from Oasis Visitor Center, you have to travel 5miles west on HWY 62, then left to Canyon Road. The road then turns slightly to the left which becomes 49 Palms canyon road and follow it to the parking area where you will start the hike.
Wildlife is abundant in this trail, so to protect them, this trail is closed and gated from sundown to sunrise. Pets are also not allowed in the trail. You cannot feed, touch, and intentionally disturb animals in the area. It would also be better to assess yourself physically if you can do the hike, as some hikers with asthma, diabetes, and heart trouble had to be rescued here at one point.
Also, don't forget to bring tons of water to avoid dehydration, and sunscreen and hat to protect you from sun exposure.
