Better book in advance. Parking is bit funny in the wharf, you can park near maritime museum for 4 hours for free and rush the tour or park elsewhere for free and get a full day 5$ transportation ticket.

Interesting and very authentical experience. There is really much to see from the functioning of the prison and live of the imprisoned. The scenic view to the San Francisco is awsome.

Book the night tour! Very authentic, lasts about 3 hours and you have plenty of time to explore the prison by yourself. Very friendly staff which you can ask everything.
