Description
Bodie State Historic Park is a popular California gold-mining ghost town, where tourists can walk through the deserted streets of a town that once had a population of nearly 10,000 people.
Today, only a small part of the town survives, preserved in a state of 'arrested decay' or a 'ghost town' feel. The interiors remain as they were left and are stocked with goods, and became designated as a National Historic Site and a State Historic Park in 1962. Looking like it did over 50 years ago when the last residents left, the only difference is that there are no commercial facilities at Bodie, such as food or gasoline to preserve the ghost town atmosphere.

Awesome stop, definitely worth the 13 extra miles (10 paved, 3 dirt). Beautiful well preserved ghost town, you can do a self guided tour with a little paper map that describes the houses!

Unfortunately the road (and so the park) was closed... maybe only open due summer times. Been here 22/04/19
