Description
This huge area is comprised of salt crystals that have been eroded by wind and rain and formed jagged rocks. If you listen carefully, you will hear tiny pops which are the sound of billions salt crystals bursting apart as they expand and contract in the heat.
It is a short drive from Furnace Creek Area to Badwater road then to the rocky access roads which will being you to the middle of the salt flat. You can drive it in a car but SUV or off-road vehicles are better. It is open during winter, spring, and fall. Pets are not allowed in this area.

1.2 miles rough gravel road to get in. Very interesting salt formations. It looks like mud that has dried and cracked. Only a small parking and turn area, not suitable for large RV's.

Gravel road is 1.2 miles long and not to bad If you take it slow. Made it down with our 19ft rental RV. This place is just amazing!
