Description

Devils Postpile National Monument is a national monument near Mammoth Mountain in Eastern California. The monument is meant to protect Devils Postpile, a unique rock formation of columnar basalt. The area encompasses 798 acres and features two main attractions: the Devils Postpile formation and Rainbow Falls, a beautiful waterfall on the Middle Fork of the San Joaquin River.

Closed for a large part of the year due to snow. Currently still 7 feet of snow apparently.

Access via The Reds Meadow Shuttle Bus. Well behaved, leashed and muzzled dogs are welcome to ride the shuttle. Muzzles are available for purchase in pet stores in Mammoth Lakes and at the Mammoth Mountain Adventure Center where shuttle bus tickets are sold.
