Description
Los Trancos Open Space Preserve is a 274-acre area, which is an ideal place to learn about earthquake geology as the San Andreas Fault, one of the world's longest and most active faults, splits the preserve.
Situated at about 2,000 feet, visitors will always have that fresh air -scented with pungent bay leaves, sweet grass, and damp woods. Go on a trip to a pleasant environment of rolling grassland knolls with oak woodland and a cool shaded forest.

Open half an hour before sunrise to half an hour after sunset. Bikes are not allowed in this Preserve. Horses are allowed on designated trails in this Preserve. No dogs.

This is also the starting point for the San Andreas Fault Trail. There are free maps available at the parking lot that describe 9 stations along a major fault formed during the 1906 earthquake - definitely interesting to have a visual impression on how the plate tectonics shape the landscape!
