Description
Manzanar is where over 10,000 Japanese-Americans were interned during World War II. It was because of the attack of Japan to Pearl Harbor which started clamor to act against people of Japanese ancestry. 1942 was the year that an order was officially ruled and the US government deprived over 120,000 people of their freedom.
This site is now preserved to protect the historical, cultural, and natural resources associated during that period in 1942. It still has the housing area, administrative area, military police compound, chicken ranch, hospital site, and cemetery. Historic orchards, Japanese ponds and gardens still remain.
