Description

Get the most spectacular view of Point Reyes Beach from South Beach Overlook, which is a short walk from the lighthouse parking area. The trail to the overlook begins on the north end of the parking lot, and descends 0.2 miles down the sandy and dirt path towards the cliff-side overlook. Visitors can bring binoculars to get a closer look at the South Beach elephant seal colony that formed in the mid-1990s, after large winter storms pushed out seals from the Point Reyes Headlands colony. Tourists can also go whale watching for gray whales, which have been observed playing in the surf at Great Beach.
