Description
The South Dunes Picnic Area features up to 20 foot high sand dunes that protect the area from coastal winds, and visitors can walk along elevated boardwalks to access Jekyll Island's beach. See picnic tables and grills, as well as open-air and screened-in picnic pavilions that can accommodate small and large groups. There are also public restrooms, dog bag stations, an observation deck, and a freshwater pond known to have an alligator or two.
