Description
Formerly known as the Roundhouse Railroad Museum, the Georgia State Railroad Museum features parts of the Central of Georgia Railway: Savannah Shops and Terminal Facilities National Historic Landmark District.
It is considered the most complete antebellum railroad complex in the United States, making the museum part of a historic district included in the National Register of Historic Places.
Visitors can see historic railroad structures such as a partial roundhouse with operating turntable, a partial machine shop, a Tender Frame Shop, a Blacksmith Shop, a Boiler House, a Storehouse & Print Shop, Lumber and Planning Sheds, Coach and Paint Shops, and a partial Carpentry Shop that houses the Savannah Children's Museum.
