Description
The Barataria Preserve features a taste of Louisiana's wild wetlands, as its 26,000 acres include bayous, swamps, marshes, and forests. Visitors can walk along boardwalks and dirt trails to spot animals, such as alligators and more than 200 species of birds.
Pets are only allowed in parking areas and on the deck at the visitor center, and must be on a leash with a human on the other end of the leash.

Boardwalk trail through the swamp. Wear mosquito repellent. We saw squirrels, frogs, lizards, spiders and lots of insects.
