Description
Lake Pontchartrain is a brackish estuary that covers an area of 630 square miles with an average depth of 12 to 14 feet. The lake is roughly oval in shape, about 40 miles from west to east and 24 miles from south to north.
It is crossed by the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway, which is the longest continuous bridge over water in the world, as well as a power line that also crosses the lake.
