Just me and some loggers when I went, so nice and quiet and solitary, I only found one spot off the road clear enough for a car to go in and someone had made a nice fire pit, but I also didn't explore the whole area.

You can camp in unimproved sites in state forest land. You need to pack out what you pack in and bury toilet waste in a fox hole.
