Description

This area contains two water-oriented recreation sites. Upper Toston Dam campground is located just above Toston Dam on the Missouri River Reservoir, and Lower Toston Dam campground is just below the dam on the free-flowing river. This reach of the river is a popular fishery for rainbow and brown trout. Wildlife frequent the area, and waterfowl, eagles, hawks, cormorants, and pelicans are common sites. Motorboats can be used above the dam on the small reservoir. Lewis and Clark named the canyon below the dam the Gates of the Mountains. Camping is free and toilet facilities are available. You may stay up to 14 days. Approximately 13 miles south of Townsend, and one mile south of Toston, turn east from Highway 287 and follow the signs to Toston Dam.

Stayed here last night. Around 4 camp sites but we were the only people there. Secluded spot on the Missouri river. Railway line across the river. Coal & cargo trains run regularly but didn't bother us. Can stay for 14 days. Beautiful spot.
