Description

Fort Churchill State Historic Park is a state park preserving the remains of a United States Army fort and a waystation on the Pony Express and Central Overland Routes dating back to the 1860s. The park houses a visitor center with exhibits on the history of Fort Churchill, the Native Americans that inhabited the area, and the natural features of the surrounding countryside. Visitors can also set up camp at the 20-site campground situated within a grove of cottonwood trees, with an adjacent group-camp and day-use picnic areas. There are also hiking trails that campers can use, including a self-guided trail around the fort ruins with interpretative signs explaining each of the buildings.
