Rhyolite Ghost Town - Death Valley

Point Of Interest

Description

This once-a-gold-mining-town got its name from the silica-rich volcanic rock in the area. It once boomed with buildings, red light district, hotels, stores, school, ice plant, electric plants and more. Today, only ruins of its glory days can be found in this part of Death Valley. Walls, or parts of it, of a 3-storey bank are still standing, as well as parts of the old jail. Few buildings are still complete like the train depot, and the Bottle House which was restored in 1925. It is located 35 miles from Furnace Creek Visitor Center.
