200 Ann and Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail, Austin, Texas
Description
The Ann W. Richards Congress Avenue Bridge crosses over Lady Bird Lake, and was renamed in 2006 to honor Ann W. Richards, the 45th Governor of Texas and a long-term resident of Austin. See the beautiful concrete arch bridge with three southbound and three northbound vehicle lanes and sidewalks on both sides of the bridge.
It is also home to the world's largest urban bat maternity colony, making it a place where pregnant females come to roost in the spring and raise their pups from mid summer to fall.

The bats emerge from the bridge between 7:45pm and 8:45pm nightly from March until November. You can watch from the viewing areas at either side of the bridge or from the bridge it's self (best spot as can be blocked by trees from the sides of the bridge). You can also do cruises to watch the bats emerge.

One of the largest populations of bats in North America. They exit the bridge every night at dusk.

Parking is $6 for 4 hours at the Austin American Statesman Building just South of the bridge.
