Description

Ponderosa Canyon was named after the Ponderosa Pines located on the canyon floor. Some of the trees measure over 5 feet in diameter and more than 150 feet tall. Though, visitors in the view point might not know it. Guests can also see the different steps of Grand Staircase which are White and Grey Cliffs. White Cliffs have thin soil or can be nonexistent at all, resulting to lack of plants. It then endures intense erosion forming deep canyons, rounded domes, and pointed nipples. Grey Cliffs, on the other hand, have a combination of sand, shale and clay allowing dense vegetation. It has a better protection of the rocks leading to a wider and meander formation.
