Thornton Lakes Trail is a moderately strenuous hike that gains 2,400 feet leading to the ridge, and loses 500 feet towards the lake. It is 5.2 miles towards Thornton Lake, one-way.

Strenuous ~11 mile return hike. Near the end, trail forks to the left for Thornton Lake, and to the right for Trappers Peak. 5 miles of gravel road up to the trailhead, extremely bumpy and steep in sections. 4wd/high clearance recommended, although I did see some regular cars at the top so it's doable...
