It was originally built in 1886 but has undergone lots of modification and restoration because of fire and earthquake. It was finally restored in 1991. It used to be a US Army outpost, but today, it has exhibits celebrating history of the park range profession. Volunteer retired rangers are the staff here.
Visitors can learn about history of the park and stories of the rangers in the park. The facility is also wheelchair accessible.
