Description

This particular Petrified Tree in Yellowstone is protected in an iron fence to prevent visitors from collecting a souvenir. Millions of years ago, Absaroka volcanoes melted the snow and created a lahar which flows through plants and trees in the area. But the organic matter and actual cells of the wood were preserved due to the petrification process.
